Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan: Foreign Delegates Visit ICAR JSS KVK and Interact with Farmers

Suttur, June 10, 2025: As part of the 10th day of the ongoing Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Suttur, welcomed distinguished international guests Dr. Scot Heriatt, Vice-President of Educational Affairs and Management Professor from the United States, and Sri Bernard Marcus, Psychology Researcher at Maharshi International University.

The guests were warmly received by Dr. B.N. Gnanesh, Senior Scientist and Head of JSS KVK, who gave an overview of the KVK’s functions and objectives. The visitors toured various model farms at the center and appreciated the efforts being made towards sustainable agriculture and farmer empowerment. They also participated in the field program organized at Devanuru village in Nanjangud Taluk and engaged in meaningful discussions with local farmers.

Dr. Vinay G.M., Scientist at JSS KVK, explained the importance of soil testing in agriculture and horticulture and its role in enhancing productivity. He provided insights on preparatory methods for monsoon crops, use of green compost such as Senabu, Diancha, and Sasugunnikayi, and the benefits of waste compost enriched with Trichoderma, Pseudomonas, and Metarhizium. He also spoke about vermicompost applications and the advantages of using light nutrient blends in crops like vegetable samruddhi and baale samruddhi.

Dr. Prasad of JSS KVK detailed disease management strategies in banana cultivation, including control of Panama disease, leaf spot, and Nendra banana-specific infections. He emphasized integrated bio-management, pest control measures for Rhinoceros beetles, white flies, and the effective use of protective nets.

Dr. Satish Yevunje, Senior Scientist at the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bengaluru, addressed the participants on pisciculture practices and their significance in doubling farmer incomes.

Simultaneously, Dr. Sujatha Nair and Dr. Anuradha Sane, Scientists from ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, visited the Abhiyan program held in Aatahalli village, Bannur Hobli, T. Narasipura Taluk. They provided guidance on horticultural crop management, seed selection, and advanced cultivation techniques.

Sri Shivanna, Technical Manager of the ATMA Program, Agriculture Department, T. Narasipura Taluk, briefed the farmers on the various schemes and support programs offered by the department.

Sri Shamraj, Cultivation Subject Expert from JSS KVK, discussed the major crops grown in the region, current challenges faced by farmers, and shared recommendations on field preparation for the monsoon season, selection of improved crop varieties, seed treatment, and integrated nutrient management.

The program highlighted the continued commitment of ICAR JSS KVK and its partners to strengthen the farming community through technical knowledge, global collaboration, and practical solutions tailored to local needs.
