14th Graduates Day Program at JSS Autonomous College, Mysuru

Mysuru, March 28, 2022: The 14th Graduation day program is set to take place at JSS Autonomous College, located on Ooty Road, Mysuru, on March 31, 2022, Thursday, at 11.30 am, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

The esteemed chief guest for the event will be Dr. B.S. Nagendra Parashar, Vice-Chancellor of Bahra University, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, Executive Secretary of JSS Mahavdiyapeetha, will preside over the program.

Participation in the program is open to students of the college who have successfully cleared undergraduate and postgraduate degree examinations during the academic year 2020-21. A total of 999 graduates, comprising 533 undergraduates and 466 postgraduates, including 526 female students, are expected to take part in this momentous event. As a special recognition, 64 toppers will be felicitated during the ceremony.

Invitations have been sent to all eligible graduates. Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, and Principal Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar have requested all students to register their names between 9.30 am and 10.30 am on the day of the program.

National-level seminar on ‘Transgenics and Protein Therapeutics’ held at JSS College, Mysuru

Mysuru, March 28, 2022: The Department of Postgraduate in Biotechnology at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, situated on Ooty Road, Mysuru, organized a national-level seminar on the topic, ‘Transgenics and Protein Therapeutics.’ The seminar was sponsored by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSTA) and took place today.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. S. Umesha, Professor at the Department of Studies in Biotechnology, University of Mysore, who also delivered the keynote address. Dr. Umesha emphasized the significance of advanced technologies like transgenic technology in addressing malnutrition and increasing agricultural crop yield to meet the demands of a growing population. He shed light on the application of transgenic technology and genetic engineering in the production of therapeutic proteins such as insulin, monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, and vaccines.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the JSS College Campus, delivered his presidential remarks, emphasizing the importance of transgenic and recombinant DNA technology in the production of therapeutically important proteins for combating infectious diseases and cancer. Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, Principal of the College, extended a warm welcome to the guests, while Dr. B.Y. Satish Kumar, Head of the Postgraduate Department of Biotechnology, proposed a vote of thanks.

The technical sessions featured presentations by esteemed resource persons. Dr. Ishwarappa S. Katageri, Professor and Associate Director of Research at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Dr. Niranjan Murthy, Professor (Retd.) at the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bengaluru, and Dr. Raghavendra, Principal Scientist at Himalaya Wellness Centre – R & D, Bengaluru, provided detailed insights into transgenics, recombinant technology, genetic engineering, and their applications in the production of therapeutic proteins.

The seminar also aimed to inform participating students about the importance of biotechnology and the current career opportunities available in the field.

National Science Day Celebrations at JSS B.Ed. College in Suttur

Suttur, March 26, 2022: The Science Association of JSS B.Ed. College, located in Suttur, organized a program to commemorate ‘National Science Day.’

The chief guest of the program, Sri G. Shadakshariswamy, Lecturer at Govt. PU College in Begur, emphasized the importance of science teaching in sparking curiosity among students. He highlighted the need to explain to students how science is applicable in their daily lives. Sri Shadakshariswamy also discussed the significance of Sir C.V. Raman’s Spectrum of Light (The Raman Effect).

Sri D.S. Prabhuswamy, a Teacher at Government High School in Hosahundi, lauded the immense contributions of Indians to the field of science and encouraged everyone to take pride in them.

During his introductory speech, Sri B.J. Adarsh of the Science Association provided a brief overview of the life and accomplishments of Sir C.V. Raman, including his Nobel Prize-winning work.

Dr. H.M. Mahesh, Principal of JSS B.Ed. College in Nanjangud, emphasized the importance of human beings adapting to nature and living in harmony with it. He encouraged students to develop a scientific mindset and strive for independent thinking.

Several heads of departments from various JSS Institutions in Suttur, including Sri S. Shivaswamy, Sri G. Shivamallu, Smt. C.P. Nirmala, Sri B.M. Siddappa, and others, were present at the event.

The program commenced with an invocation by Smt. Meghasri and her team, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Kum. Archana. Kum. Bhumika skillfully managed the program.

Applications Invited for Admission to JSS Free Residential School

Suttur, March 25, 2022: The JSS Free Residential School in Suttur is inviting applications from eligible candidates for admission to classes 1 to 10 (Kannada medium) and classes 1 to 5 and 8 (English medium).

Admissions are open to both boys and girls from financially backward families in rural areas, including daily wage workers, agricultural laborers, and those in the BPL category. Application forms will be available for distribution until March 31. Interested individuals can collect the application forms in person from the school office or download them from the school websites: www.jssschoolsuttur.org and www.jssonline.org.

The last date to submit applications is April 30. For those who wish to receive the application forms by post, please send complete details of the student, including the desired class for admission, along with a self-addressed envelope affixed with a Rs. 5 postal stamp, to the following address: Administrative Officer, JSS Educational Institutions, Suttur – 571129, Nanjangud Taluk, Mysuru District.

Arrangements have also been made to provide application forms through WhatsApp. Applications must be submitted with all the required documents, including the marks card of the previous standard, a photograph of the student, copies of the Aadhar card of the student and both parents, ration card, and caste and income certificates.

Striving for Excellence is One of the Fundamental Duties: Mr. Ashwin D. Gowda

Mysuru, March 22, 2022: Mr. Ashwin D. Gowda, Managing Director of KSDC Govt. of Karnataka, emphasized the importance of striving for excellence in today’s competitive world during his inaugural address at a one-day UGC-sponsored workshop on “Skill Development for Students.” The workshop was organized by the Department of English (UG & PG) in association with the IQAC at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru.

Mr. Ashwin D. Gowda advised the students to prioritize the development of soft skills, as it is crucial in meeting the changing demands of the job market. He encouraged students to not only assert their rights but also understand their responsibilities and limitations. Communication and time management, he observed, should be core factors in their learning.

Dr. Latha K. C., Education Officer, UGC SWRO, Bengaluru, and an alumna of the college, served as the chief guest. She emphasized the importance of focusing on goals and avoiding distractions from social media. Emotional intelligence, she noted, plays a significant role in today’s competitive world, and students should learn to manage their emotions to succeed in their respective fields. Acquiring soft skills is essential for a better future, she added.

Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, urged students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by workshops like this. He highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the Central and State Governments to integrate skill components in higher education under NEP 2020. Prof. Sambashivaiah encouraged students to utilize these opportunities to enhance their overall personalities, as the ultimate goal of education is to secure better employment.

The inaugural session was followed by five technical sessions. Topics covered included the importance of soft skills in jobs, current trends in the IT industry, skills for shaping and molding students, communication skills, and effective study habits. The workshop aimed to create awareness and equip students with the necessary skills for a successful future.

Dr. H. C. Honnappa, Principal of the college, welcomed the dignitaries, and the program featured an invocation by Ms. Sannidi. Dr. Poornima M., Head of the Department of English, proposed a vote of thanks, while Smt. Vasumathi P., Assistant Professor of English, served as the compere.
