Practical Agriculture Training Program Empowers Farmers in Suttur

Suttur, September 22, 2021: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, in collaboration with ITC and Outreach Organizations in Mysuru, jointly organized a hands-on training program for farmers at the JSS KVK center in Suttur. The program aimed to equip farmers with practical knowledge and skills in various agricultural techniques.

Dr. Vinay G.M., a Scientist from the Horticulture Department, led the program and provided valuable insights to the participants on cultivating vegetable plants using methods such as the protray method and growing one-eyed plants. He also demonstrated the cultivation techniques for crops like papaya, drumstick, mango, cheeku, and coconut using transplantation methods.

A special demonstration on the preparation of low-cost vermicompost was also conducted. Dr. Vinay explained that worms play a vital role in breaking down organic materials present in the soil, such as animal waste, coconut fiber, sugarcane waste, banana plant stem, and green leaves. By combining these materials with cow dung and cow urine, farmers can create a nutrient-rich fertilizer by allowing the mixture to decompose.

The In-charge Chief of JSS KVK, Senior Scientist Divya, shared insights on seed treatment methods for paddy crops, crop management techniques, and integrated nutrition management. Soil Scientist Rajanna discussed soil sampling methods, emphasized the importance of maintaining soil health, and provided guidance on integrated nutrition management for banana crops.

The training program witnessed the presence of JSS KVK Senior Scientist Manjunath Angadi, scientists Shamraj, Netravati, Rakshith Raj, Gangadhar Hipparagi, and other staff members. Approximately 30 farmers from Arave Village in Hunsur Taluk actively participated in the program, gaining valuable knowledge and practical skills to enhance their agricultural practices.

The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra continues to promote and support the agricultural community by organizing such training programs that empower farmers with the latest techniques and methodologies in agriculture.
