JSS School, Suttur, Marks 76th Independence Day with Grand Celebration

Suttur, August 15, 2023: The JSS Educational Institution in Suttur commemorated the 76th Independence Day with a spectacular celebration that resonated with patriotism and pride. Distinguished guests, inspiring speeches, and captivating performances made the event a memorable tribute to the nation’s freedom.

The tricolor flag was ceremoniously hoisted by Dr. H.S. Raghavendra Rao, President and Managing Director of D.S.X Systems Ltd., Bengaluru. Dr. Rao, an esteemed alumnus of the institution, shared his deep sense of honor and pride in unfurling the national flag. In his address, he encouraged the students to weave patriotism into their education, reminding them of the boundless opportunities that lie ahead and urging them to be exemplary citizens.

Shri Shivakumar, the Chief Guest and Owner of Shri Mahalakshmi Sweets in Mysuru, graced the occasion with his insightful remarks. He emphasized the sacredness of Suttur Srikshetra and the role of courage in today’s world. Shri Shivakumar urged the students to imbue their endeavors with passion and integrity, echoing the values of the nation’s freedom fighters and achievers.

Shri S.P. Udayashankar, Administrative Officer of JSS Institutions, presided over the celebration, joined by distinguished heads of various departments. The event saw students eloquently delivering speeches in Kannada, English, and Hindi, reflecting on the significance of Independence Day, culture, and traditions.

The celebration showcased the disciplined march of NCC Airforce, Land Army, Scouts and Guides, and the school’s vibrant band teams, capturing the essence of national pride. The students’ cultural performances, including the captivating Mallakambh display, added a vibrant touch to the festivities.

The event began with a solemn invocation by the school students, followed by a warm welcome extended by Shri G.L. Tripurantaka, the Institution Coordinating Officer. Smt. K.S. Mamatha delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and attendees for their contributions to the event’s success.

The celebration’s coordination was led by Smt. Kavyashree, ensuring the smooth flow of the program and its impactful execution.

India Stands Strong as the World’s Most Resilient Democracy, Affirms Prof. H.M. Rajashekar

Mysuru, August 15, 2023: Prof. H.M. Rajashekar, Retired Professor of Political Science at the University of Mysore, delivered an enlightening address on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day celebration held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science on Ooty Road, Mysuru. Prof. Rajashekar asserted that India not only holds the distinction of being the largest democratic nation but is also the strongest democratic force globally.

Reflecting on India’s remarkable journey, Prof. Rajashekar highlighted that the visionary leaders of the Indian Subcontinent, alongside the framing of a robust Constitution, have laid the sturdy democratic foundations that make India an exemplar on the world stage. He underlined how these democratic roots have empowered India to achieve socio-political and economic equality, cementing its identity as a prominent nation.

In his insightful address, Prof. Rajashekar acknowledged the pivotal role of educators as transformers who instil ethical values in students. He elaborated on the multifaceted roles teachers play as transformers, educators, creators, harmonizers, elucidators, and researchers, emphasizing how their efforts have nurtured a spirit of nationalism and patriotism among the youth. He also paid homage to the arduous journey of India’s independence, marked by struggles and sacrifices.

Prof. B V Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the college, hoisted the national flag and presided over the ceremony. Dr. S Prathibha, Principal of the degree college, extended a warm welcome to the attendees. Prof. S Somashekar, Principal of the P U College, delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Vinay Kumar, NCC officer of the college and convener of the National Festivals Committee, skillfully managed the proceedings. The invocation was presented by Kum. M.C Rekhashree of III B Sc.

Kisan Service Society Conference Promotes Innovative Agricultural Practices for Sustainable Farming

Suttur, August 13, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in collaboration with the Kisan Service Society, Kannur, Kerala, successfully organized a three-day National Conference at Suttur Srikshetra, focusing on the advancement of sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. The event aimed to introduce farmers to cutting-edge technologies, offer profitable and sustainable farming solutions, enhance awareness on agricultural matters, and advocate for value addition in the agricultural sector.

The conference witnessed the participation of over 300 Kisan Society office-bearers, executives, and farmers, signifying the significance of the event and the collective commitment towards sustainable agriculture.

Shri Shantaveer, Deputy Divisional Manager of NABARD Bank, Mysuru, elaborated on the comprehensive facilities and support provided by NABARD to the farming community. NABARD’s role in fostering financial assistance and developmental initiatives in agriculture and rural sectors was emphasized.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director of the Indian Institute of Horticulture, Bengaluru, stressed the paramount importance of prioritizing horticultural crops, terrace gardening, vertical gardening, and innovative agricultural technologies. Dr. Singh encouraged farmers to embrace new varieties and horticultural practices to diversify and enhance agricultural sustainability.

Dr. Khader Wali, in his inaugural address, advocated for a paradigm shift in dietary habits towards millets, citing the evolving food landscape and associated health challenges. Millets were positioned as a healthier alternative to prevailing consumption patterns.

Dr. Sridevi Anupama Singh, Director of the Central Food Technology and Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, projected a promising future for the food processing and value-added products market. She underscored the potential for high-quality products to captivate both national and international markets.

His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji graced the valedictory program and emphasized the integral role of farmers and agricultural industrialists in elevating food security and reducing costs for citizens. He commended the Kisan Service Society’s commendable efforts and expressed optimism for their continued impactful contributions.

JSS Higher Primary School students selected for Divisional Yoga competition

Suttur, August 11, 2023: The Department of School Education and Literacy had organized a District-level Yoga Competition, at the Beden Powell School in Mysuru.

A total number of 05 students including four boys and one girl from our school took part in the competition. All the 05 of them are selected to take part in the Divisional-level competition.

While Sandeep Gowda, 7th Standard secured first place, Samarth (2nd), Manoj (3rd) (selected for divisional-level in group category), Yashwanth M. of 6th Standard secured 1st place, followed by Manya in the 2nd place under Artistic category, and are selected to take part in the divisional level that will be held at Udupi.

Headmaster, Heads of various departments of the school and teaching staff have congratulated the winners and wished them best of luck.

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Empowers Farmers with Scientific Mango Cultivation and Pest Management Training

Suttur, August 11, 2023: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Suttur recently organized a comprehensive one-day training program focused on “Scientific Measures in Mango Crop Cultivation and Integrated Pest and Disease Management.” The event aimed to empower local farmers with advanced techniques to enhance their mango cultivation practices and mitigate pest and disease challenges.

The program commenced with an inaugural address by Smt. Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and Incharge Head of ICAR JSS KVK. She provided an overview of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s initiatives and programs, emphasizing the importance of the mango training program in promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

Keynote speaker J.G. Rajanna, an expert in agricultural practices, shed light on the critical role of soil health in successful agriculture. His presentation highlighted the significance of proper nutrition for mango crops and importance of “mango samruddhi” as a tool for optimizing crop prosperity.

Horticulture Scientist Dr. Vinay G.M. engaged participants with an informative session on factors influencing mango cultivation. From selecting suitable mango varieties based on weather conditions to post-harvest technologies and effective pruning techniques, Dr. Vinay covered a spectrum of topics aimed at maximizing mango yield and quality.

Addressing the pressing concern of pest and disease management, Dr. Prasad Y.P., Plant Conservation Scientist, delivered an insightful talk on identifying and combating common pests affecting mango crops. His presentation included practical insights into managing issues like mango hoppers, mealy bugs, and fruit flies, along with integrated strategies to tackle diseases such as powdery mildew and anthracnose.

The training program’s interactive approach culminated in a hands-on demonstration of shape management and pruning techniques for mango trees. This practical session allowed participants to gain first hand experience and refine their skills.

Among the attendees included Shrikshetra Dharamastala Rural Development Program Agriculture Officer Diwakar, progressive farmers like Arun Chowgidar, as well as KVK Scientist Shamraj, Dr. Rakshith Raj, Field Manager Gangappa Hipparagi, Kumaraswamy, and more than 50 dedicated male and female farmers.

JSS Higher Primary School bags overall prize in sports

Students of the JSS Higher Primary School, Suttur, participated in various sports events in the Hobli-level sports meet organized by the Education and Literacy Department, Nanjangud, in association with the Government Higher Primary School, Suttur, and won overall sports events. Suttur, August 10, 2023: The Education Department, Govt. of Karnataka, Literacy Department, Nanjangud, in association with the Government Higher Primary School, Suttur, had organized a hobli-level sports meet at Suttur. Students of JSS Higher Primary School participated in various sports events and won overall prize.

In boys category, the students of JSS Higher Primary School, Suttur, won first prize in Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Throwball tournaments and 2nd place in Volleyball. In girls category, students of the school won first prize in Kho-Kho, Vollebay, and Throwball tournaments and 2nd place in Kabaddi.

In boys athletics, Basavaraj Kantesh Sunnadakoppa secured first place in High Jump, 600 m running, and 400 m running and emerged as Individual Champion.

In boys category, Sharath Prasad secured 2nd place in 100 m running, Paramesh secured 1st place in 200 m, Vijay Kumar emerged 1st in Long Jump, Mallikarjun secured 1st place in shot put, Diganth – 1st in Discuss Throw, Vishwanath and team 1st place in 400×100 m relay.

In girls category Akshatha Manjunath Gundikoppa secured 1st place in 100 m, 2nd place in 200 m, Lakshmi secured 2nd place in 400 m, Pavitra secured 1st place in 600 m running, and 3rd place in long jump. Yujanya secured 1st place in Yujanya, Charity, 1st place in shot put and Discuss Throw, Lakshmi and team – 1st place in 400×100 m relay.

“JSS Education University Hosts Lecture on ‘Able Teacher – Able Protector’ for Empowering Educators”

Suttur, August 10, 2023: The JSS Education University (B.Ed. College), Suttur, organized a noteworthy special lecture on August 8, 2023, centered around the theme of ‘Samartha Shikshaka-Rashtra Rakshaka’ (Able Teacher – Able Protector).

Distinguished speaker Shri Satyananda Vivek Vamshi, Founder of Viveka Vidyavahini in Mysuru, delivered his insights on the invaluable role of educators at the national level. State-Level Seminar Sheds Light on Urgent Need for Biodiversity Conservation

Mysuru, July 28, 2023: A one-day state-level seminar on ‘Biodiversity Conservation: Strategies and Challenges (BCSC)’ was recently held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru. The seminar, was organized as part of the G20 Jan Bhagidari, by the PG Department of Botany in collaboration with the Department of Studies in Botany, University of Mysore, Manasagangothri, on July 26, 2023.

Distinguished speakers, renowned researchers, faculty, and students gathered at the event to address the pressing issues of biodiversity loss and its consequences on the delicate ecological balance. The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. T.C. Taranath, Vice Chancellor of Hassan University, who emphasized the equal rights of every organism for life and decried the destructive impact of human greed and luxurious lifestyles on the beauty of nature.

Quoting the Sanskrit term ‘Asathoma Sadgamaya,’ Prof. Taranath emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among all living beings and urged the audience to recognize the urgency of conserving natural resources for the well-being of future generations.

The keynote address was presented by Prof. K.N. Amruthesh, Chairman of the Department of Studies in Botany at the University of Mysore. He drew attention to the alarming rate of species extinction caused by human activities and called for immediate action to conserve flora, fauna, and the entire biodiversity. Prof. Amruthesh showcased the significance of geographical regions like the Himalayas and Western Ghats, home to diverse plant families that play a vital role in ecological sustenance.

The seminar witnessed enlightening talks from experts in the field. Dr. M.U. Sharief, Scientist at the Botanical Survey of India, Coimbatore, shed light on the ‘Conservation of Biodiversity- A BSI Perspective’ during the first session. In the second session, Dr. R. Raghavendra Rao, Honorary Guest Faculty at JSS Academy of Science (Deemed Univ.), INSA Honorary Scientist, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “Biological Diversity and Bio Prospection for Human Welfare – Concerns, Strategies, and Challenges for the 21st century.”

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the college, presented detailed statistics on living species, land area, and the need for preserving biodiversity in India. He highlighted the significance of plants as sources of both traditional and modern medicines, emphasizing the threats posed by population explosion, global warming, and industrialization.

The seminar saw active participation from over 300 postgraduate Botany students, 65 faculty members, and 20 research scholars who benefitted from the knowledge and insights shared by the experts.

Principal Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar warmly welcomed the esteemed guests, dignitaries, and participants to the event, while Organizing Secretary Prof. Biligiriranga extended a heartfelt vote of thanks. Dr. Sindhu G M skilfully mastered the program. Ms. Vasavi and team rendered an invocation.

The seminar successfully highlighted the urgent need for biodiversity conservation, fostering a sense of responsibility among attendees to protect and preserve the earth’s rich natural heritage for the benefit of future generations.

Training on paddy cultivation techniques and Live telecast of the release of 14th Instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Program.

Suttur, July 28, 2023: A program to distribute the 14th instalment to the farmers under the PM Kisan Samman Program will be held at Nagpur in Rajasthan on 28.07.2023. The ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, has made arrangements for Live telecast of this program at its centre in Suttur.

A workshop on educating the farmers of the release of new alternative varieties  to ‘Jyothi’ paddy variety, and relevant technologies for paddy yield, integrated disease and pest management will also be held.

Interested farmers, including both men and women are requested to visit the ICAR JSS KVK at 10.30 am and utilize the benefits of the program.
