Empowering Mothers: National Nutrition Month Workshop Promotes Health and Well-being in Suttur

Suttur, Sept. 18, 2020: In line with the Government of India’s announcement of September as ‘Nutrition Month,’ a dedicated effort is being made to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition among mothers across the country. The objective of this campaign is to strengthen nutrition levels among women and children and eliminate malnutrition.

As part of this nationwide initiative, the ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, in association with IFFCO, Mysuru, organized a program on September 17, 2020, at its center in Suttur. The workshop aimed to educate anganwadi activists about the significance of nutrition, the consumption of fruits and vegetables for improved immunity, the types of food that can prevent anemia, and the importance of developing and maintaining kitchen gardens.

Smt. Netravathi Yettinamani, In-house Scientist at JSS KVK, shared valuable insights on the food that should be consumed to enhance nutrition levels. She emphasized the consumption of fruits and vegetables for increased immunity and highlighted the types of food that can prevent anemia. Additionally, she provided guidance on developing and maintaining kitchen gardens to ensure a sustainable supply of nutritious food.

Sri Shamraj, Farm Scientist at JSS KVK, shared practical information on methods for growing vegetables, fruits, and greens in a kitchen garden, including appropriate use of manure for optimal plant growth.

During the workshop, Sri Rafeek P.K., Field Officer from IFFCO, distributed seed kits to the attending anganwadi activists, supporting them in their efforts to establish kitchen gardens.

The workshop was attended by a total of 45 people, including anganwadi activists and JSS KVK staff members, who actively participated in the discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions.

This initiative is a significant step towards creating a nutrition-conscious society and ensuring the well-being of mothers and children. By equipping them with knowledge and resources, the workshop aimed to empower mothers to make informed choices regarding their family’s nutrition.
