Suttur, July 16, 2022: ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, Suttur, organized a demonstration and training session on the new paddy variety KMP 220 and seed treatment techniques for farmers in Dankanayakanpura Village, T. Narasipur Taluk, Mysuru District. The event aimed to educate farmers about the benefits of seed treatment and introduce them to the high-yielding KMP 220 paddy variety.
Led by Smt. Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and Incharge Head of JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra, the session emphasized the significance of seed treatment in preventing diseases and reducing production costs. Smt. Divya explained the potential diseases that commonly affect paddy crops and highlighted how they can be mitigated through seed treatment. By investing a minimal amount ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100, farmers can safeguard their crops, minimize yield reduction, and maximize overall productivity.
During the training, Smt. Divya also introduced the farmers to the newly released KMP 220 variety, which resembles the popular ‘Akki Jyoti’ variety but offers higher yields and demonstrates lower susceptibility to diseases. Developed by the Agricultural University, the KMP 220 variety holds promise for farmers seeking improved outcomes in paddy cultivation.
Cultivation Scientist Sri Shamraj from JSS KVK shared insights on cultivation methods, including the usage of drum seeders and herbicides, further enriching the knowledge of the participants. Additionally, Dr. Rakshith Raja, Veterinary Scientist, along with progressive farmers Chinnabuddhi, Mahadevappa, and 24 other farmers from the village, actively utilized the learnings from the program to enhance their agricultural practices.
The demonstration and training program received enthusiastic participation from the farming community, facilitating the dissemination of valuable information and empowering farmers with practical techniques to optimize their paddy cultivation.
