JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra Observes National Girl Child Day

Suttur, January 25, 2022: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra celebrated National Girl Child Day on December 24, 2022, with a focus on promoting gender equality, education for girl children, raising awareness about their health and nutrition, preventing female foeticide, eliminating gender discrimination, and addressing violence against girls.

Smt. H.V. Divya, Incharge Chief and Senior Scientist at ICAR JSS KVK, actively participated in the program. In her address, she highlighted the objectives of National Girl Child Day and provided information about government initiatives such as “Sukanya Samruddhi” and “Bhagyalakshmi” that support the education of underprivileged girl children.

Smt. Mamatha A., Officer from the Mysuru District Child Protection Unit, shared insights on the changes that girls experience during adolescence. She emphasized the importance of open discussions about these changes, as well as the rights of girl children.

Mysuru District Child Protection Unit Counsellor Smt. Mamata M. S. explained the functions and activities of the child protection unit.

Smt. Netravathi Yettinamani, Home Scientist at JSS KVK, addressed the major challenges faced by girls during adolescence, particularly anemia. She discussed the causes, symptoms, and problems associated with anemia, as well as the importance of nutrition and iron-rich foods for preventing and addressing this condition.

Around 50 students from JSS High School, Suttur, along with their teacher Smt. Yashoda, actively participated in the program. Following the stage programs, all attendees had the opportunity to visit the demonstration unit of JSS KVK.
