Kollegal, December 21, 2019: “An advocate’s profession is very responsible. The role of advocates in building a good society is vital,” opined Smt. Nirmala Madhusudan, Advocate and President, Senior Students Forum.
She participated in a special lecture programme on the topic “Role of Advocates in Building a Good Society is Vital,” organised by the Youth Red Cross Society and Senior Students Forum, held at the JSS Women’s College, in Kollegal, as part of the Advocates Day celebrations.
In her address, she expressed her view that the profession of an advocate is very respectable as they strive to provide justice to the victims of injustice, the suppressed and the exploited people. The suggestions of advocates give confidence to the worried people. People can live a peaceful life without any disputes and with courage because of the presence and services of advocates. Thus advocates contribute to the building of a good society. The extinction and survival of a society are in the hands of advocates, she said and requested all the legal professionals to respect their profession and not to mislead the court and try not to delay in getting justice to the people.
Prof. Umesh, Principal, JSS Women’s’ College, Kollegal, presided over the programme. “For the want of money and power a few advocates are taking up cases on behalf of criminals who are facing charges like rape. I feel very sad when I see this,” he lamented. Instead, they should ensure that the criminals are penalised and work help the innocent people to get justice. Thus they should involve in correcting society. A safe society can be seen when this happens. The majority of today’s advocates are performing their duty honestly, he opined.
Smt. Mamatha, Sri Basavadatta Mahadevaprasad, Convenor of Red Cross Forum, and Smt.Vani, Forum Convenor were present.
