Mysore, October 28, 2019: The JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru, in association with The New India Assurance Company Limited, had organised the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week -2019’, on October 28, 2019.
Shivakumar,Assistant Professor, Kannada Department, read out the pledge and all the members present took the oath to adopt integrity as a part of their life.
Chief Guests Mr. Somanath Rao and Mrs. Sumangala, Senior Divisional Managers, New India Assurance Company Limited addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of integrity and corruption-free nation and urged everyone to follow integrity as a fundamental value.
Cash prizes were distributed to the winners of the essay writing competition conducted for PG students, held on October 26, 2019. The topic of the competition was ‘Integrity –A Way of life,’ and was organised in connection with the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week- 2019. More than 20 students participated and the following four students won the prize. Thanushree C U (I year M.Com. – 1st prize), Pooja T R (II year M.A. English – 2nd prize), Neeraj Nanaiah K (I M.Sc. Chemistry – 3rd prize) and Monika P R (I M.Sc. Bio Chemistry – 4th prize).
Prof. B.V. Sambahshiviah, Chief Executive of the college spoke on the level and percentage of corruption in various countries. He also shared his personal experience and suggested everyone adopt integrity as a part of their life and to shun away corruption.

Suttur, October 22, 2019: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignan Kendra had organised an awareness programme on fertilizers for farmers, in Suttur.
Addressing the farmers on the occasion, Dr. K.V. Keshavaiah, Professor, V.C. Farm Division Research Centre, Mandya, expressed his view that the farmers should ensure that the fertilizers they use mixes completely with the soil. He explained that while using fertilizers the farmers should ensure that there is 4 inches distance from the root. He also provided information about the various type of fertilizers.
Dr. T. Bhagyalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Mandya Agriculture University explained about the new type of fertilizers. Sri B.S. Deepak, Assistant Director, Agriculture Department, Nanjangud, provided information about soil testing, method of removing soil from the plant for testing and soil health certificate. Dr. Niranjan, R&D Division, Mangalore Fertilizers, Hassan, shared information about the integrated nutrition management of the crops.
Dr. D.S. Somashekar, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Mysuru, presided over the programme. He expressed his view that today the farmers have reached a stage where they consider that they cannot grow anything without using fertilizers. He called upon the farmers to know whether they can use organic manure, bio-fertilizers, green manure and compost-based on the soil testing in their respective fields and thereby adopt sustainable agriculture methods.
Sri K.R. Ravindra, Deputy Director, ATMA programme, Agriculture Department welcomed the participants. Dr. Arun Balamatti, Head, JSS KVK compered and Sri J.G. Rajanna gave a vote of thanks.

Suttur, October 21, 2019: The ICAR JSS Krishi Vignana Kendra, Suttur, in association with the Horticulture Department and Hullahalli FPO, had organised a one-day training programme on management of nutrients, integrated disease, and pest management and managing micronutrients on October 17, 2019.
Due to lack of proper knowledge about nutrition management, pest and disease control, farmers growing watermelon and tomato crops in this region were spending a lot of money and were getting less yield. They also used to incur losses when they could not fetch good price for their crop. Noticing this the ICAR JSS KVK and the FPO, Hullahalli, organised the training programme under the Integrated Horticulture Development Programme.
Dr. Arasu Mallaiah, Professor (Retd.) provided a lot of information on organic farming, integrated pest and disease management to the farmers who grow watermelon and tomato crops. Dr. Shamraj, Scientist, KVK, explained about the cultivation methods and integrated nutrition management of horticultural crops. Sri Shivakumar, Horticulture Officer spoke about the various facilities available from the Horticulture Department. He also explained the various innovative technologies in horticultural crops, usage of chemical fertilizers and crop management and disease-pest management.
Smt. H.V. Divya, Seed Technology Scientist, JSS KVK, shared information about bio-pesticide, farm net, organic farming, Beejamrutha, and Agniasthra. She also asked the farmers to contact the JSS Agri Clinic in Suttur and Mysuru for more information on this and to purchase the tools required.
About 52 farmers from various villages including Shiramalli, Heggadahalli, Deveerammanahalli, Haratale, Rampura and Huskuru villages took part in the training programme.
Sri Puttabasappa, Director, FPO, Hullahalli, and Sri Lokesh were present. Sri V.N. Murthy, CEO, FPO gave a vote of thanks and Smt. Divya compered.
After the training programme the scientists took the participants to the tomato field belonging to farmer Sri Mahadevappa, in Mobballi village, banana and watermelon farm belonging to Sri Lokesh of Haratale, a banana farm belonging to Sri Marinanjaiah and shared information about the integrated disease and pest management.
