Suttur Jatre – Janajagruti Yatre from Feb. 1 to 6, 2019

Mysuru, January 29, 2019: His Holiness Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Swamiji’s Jatra Mahotsav will be held at Suttur in Mysuru District, from February 1 to 6, 2019, in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

While the ‘Rathotsava’ will be held on February 3, ‘Theppotsava’, ‘Kondotsava’, ‘Haalaharavi Utsava,’ ‘Laksha Deepostava,’ and other programmes will be held on February 5. There will be cultural, educational programmes and sports events as part of the Jatra Mahotsav.

Bhajana Mela:

This year the 27th State-Level Bhajan competition will be held. More than 800 people including both men, women and children bhajan teams from across the State and other states are expected to take part in this competition. The competition will be held in seven categories. Separate prizes will be distributed for each category.

Exhibition:

This year the exhibition will have attractions like stalls selling handloom, handicraft, household items. Various State Government Departments, industries, entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs will take part. There will also be an exhibition of the science and educational models, prepared by the JSS High School children, along with a medical and technical exhibition.

Krishi Mela:

In order to provide information to the farmers regarding various agriculture and technology relating to the agri-products a ‘Krishi Mela’ (agriculture exhibition) will be held where there will be demonstrations on various topics like integrated crop management, animal husbandry, etc. An interaction programme with organics and millets experts and farmers who are growing them will be organized. The other programmes include millet recipe competition, exhibition and sale of millets products by different NGOs, exhibition of various diversified super food crops like Tiff, Chia and Klenova, which are said to be having more proteins, carbohydrates and fiber content.

State-level on the spot drawing competition:

A State-Level drawing competition will be held for Primary and High School students, on February 3, 2019.

Chitra Santhe:

A ‘Chitra Santhe’ (painting fair) will be held where the works of renowned artists of the State and other States like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal will be exhibited and sold.

Mass Marriage:

A free mass marriage programme will be held as every year, on February 2, 2019 and it will be open for people belonging to all the castes. While mangalasutra, saree, toe ring will be given to the bride, the groom will get a dhoti, valli and shirt, completely free of cost. More than 2,750 couples have tied the knot till now in the mass marriages conducted by the Suttur Math. Registrations for the free mass marriage has already commenced and the response is already higher than last year.

Folk song, rangoli, kite festivals:

In order to encourage folk art, a ‘Sobaane Pada’ and rangoli compettion will be held on February 1, 2019 and a kite festival on February 3, 2019.

Wrestling competition:

The 39th State-Level wrestling competition will be held on February 5, 2019. This time there will be two ‘Maarpeet’ wrestling shows. While ‘Sutturu Kesari’ award will be given to the winner of the State-level competition, ‘Suttur Kumara’ award will be given to the local round winner.

Desi games:

Various ‘Desi’ games competition will be held for the students of JSS Institutions.

Rural sports meet for public:

Rural games like ‘Kesaru Gadde Vota’, tug of war, ‘Alaguli Mane’, Anekallu, etc. will be held on February 3 and 4 for rural men and women. The winners will be given cash prize, along with a memento and certificate.

Cattle Fair:

The cattle fair at suttur is being held during all the Jatra Mahatosav’s from the last 51 years. Prizes will be given to healthy and well built cattle.

Cultural Mela:

More than 3,500 students will take part in various cultural programmes including Bharatanatya, group dances, vachana based dance ballet, group singing, etc., in the JSS Inter-Institutional cultural mela. More than 450 programmes will be held as part of this. Apart from this the students will present special cultural programmes daily on all the six days during the jatra mahotsav from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Cultural Programmes:

More than 15 plays will be held by professional theater groups from rural and urban areas.

Art teams:

There will be colourful programmes from various art groups from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Prasada:

There will be prasada (food) arrangements for all the devotees and visitors at the jatra mahotsav on all the days during the jatra mahotsav.

Accommodation:

Along with permanent rooms, temporary shelters will be provided where space is available in order to provide accommodation to the thousands of people who throng the jatra mahotsav.

Transportation:

The Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation has arranged special buses to Suttur for the convenience of the visitors, from various District and Taluk Headquarters.

Pontiffs of various maths, Chief Minister, Central and State Government Ministers, MPs, MLCs, dignitaries and artists will attend the Jatra Mahotsav.

Dr. Ganesh Ameenghad Highlights Concerns Over Youth’s Social Media Usage

Mysuru, January 28, 2019: Dr. Ganesh Ameenghad, Journalist and Litterateur, expressed his concern about the excessive time today’s youth spend on social media, emphasizing the importance of utilizing time effectively.

Dr. Ganesh Ameenghad served as the chief guest at the ‘Essay Competition’ organized by the ‘Jaana-Jaaneyara Balaga’ of the Kannada Post Graduate Department at JSS Arts, Commerce and Science College, B.N. Road, Mysuru. During his speech, he urged the participants to exercise caution while using social media platforms, as incidents of cheating and fraud are on the rise. He emphasized the need for awareness of the potential risks associated with social media usage and encouraged the students to cultivate reading habits and set goals to make the most of their time.

The program was inaugurated by Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College. In his address, Prof. Sambashivaiah emphasized the importance of essay competitions in stimulating critical thinking and encouraged students to engage in discussions and analysis before starting their writing process. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, was also present at the event.

The program included an invocation by Kum. Jyothi Bhat, a vote of thanks by Kum. R. Manjula, and was compered by Kum. K.K. Harishtha. More than 50 students participated in the essay competition, and lectures and students from the college were present at the event.

Patriotism and Enthusiasm Mark Republic Day Celebrations at Suttur

Suttur, January 26, 2019: The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with great patriotism and enthusiasm at the JSS Institution in Suttur. The event witnessed the participation of esteemed guests and students, highlighting the achievements of India in various fields.

Sri A. Nagappa, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Retd.), Mysuru, graced the occasion and expressed his admiration for India’s progress in sectors such as defence, science and technology, and space science. He shared the inspiring story of an alumnus from JSS Institutions who made the country proud through his innovation and participation in Japan. Sri Nagappa advised students to remain thirsty for knowledge and always cherish their roots, emphasizing the significance of gratitude towards the motherland.

Prof. K.S. Lokesh, Registrar, JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru, presided over the program and delivered an empowering speech to the students. He reminded them of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and elders, emphasizing that our lives are indebted to their contributions. Prof. Lokesh urged students to foster a sense of belongingness and respect for the nation, its resources, and its people. He stressed the importance of broadmindedness and expressed gratitude towards the brave soldiers who safeguard the country.

Awaken the Spirit of Nationality: Dr. Jyothi Shankar urges Students on Republic Day

Mysuru, January 26, 2019: Dr. Jyothi Shankar, Assistant Professor of Kannada at Karnataka State Open University, Muktha Gangothri Mysuru, delivered a powerful message on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day celebration at JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science, B. N. Road, Mysuru. Emphasizing the importance of national pride, language, and a positive approach to life, Dr. Shankar urged students to become agents of change and foster a deep sense of respect for their country.

Dr. Jyothi spoke passionately, encouraging students to take pride in their land and language. She emphasized the need for a positive outlook and advised students to focus on what India has to offer rather than questioning its worth. Drawing attention to India’s rich contributions to science and technology, she urged students to harness this knowledge to make the world marvel at their accomplishments. Remembering Holymen Inspires Introspection: HH Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji

Suttur, January 24, 2019: Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji emphasized the significance of remembering and seeking the blessings of holymen as a means to introspect and cultivate inner growth.

He participated in a thanksgiving program organized at Suttur to honor the activists involved in the successful conduct of the 1059th Jayanthi Mahotsav of Adijagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Swamiji in Shivamogga. Expressing his appreciation, he commended the sincerity, devotion, discipline, and interest demonstrated by the people of Shivamogga throughout the program.

Sri B. S. Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, and patron of the Jayanthi program Committee in Shivamogga, expressed his initial concerns about the program’s reception but was pleased to witness the enthusiastic participation of thousands of people. He attributed the success of all the programs, including the exhibition, seminar, unity jatra, and other events, to the combined efforts of the organizers and the divine blessings of Paramapujya Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji.

Mysuru, January 24, 2019: The Annual Sports Meet of the JSS Arts, Commerce, and Science, College was held on dt: 19.01.2019, in the college premises on B.N. Road, Mysuru. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of the college inaugurated the sports meet.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, CEO of the College presided over the function. In his address to the students, he opined that sports is one of the most important parts in the extra-curricular activities, as it helps the students to develop good health, physical strength, improves concentration and build leadership qualities. It also helps for the overall development of the students, he added.

Sri M. Kartik, Director, Physical Education Department, was present in the programme.

Swami Vivekananda: A Beacon of Inspiration for the Youth, Says S. J. Krishna

Kollegal, January 18, 2019: Sri S. J. Krishna, Senior cadre Civil Judge, hailed Swami Vivekananda as a powerhouse of inspiration, a fountain of spirit, and a great religious leader and monk who introduced India to the entire world. He made these remarks while inaugurating a special lecture on ‘Skill Development’ organized by the Youth Red Cross Society, Kollegal Taluk unit, in association with the Legal Services Committee, Taluk Advocates Committee, and Nehru Yuva Kendra, as part of the National Youth Week, at JSS Women’s College in Kollegal.

Speaking to the students, Sri Krishna emphasized the universal appeal and influence of Swami Vivekananda’s ideologies. He urged the youth to understand and embrace the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, as it is their responsibility as Indians. Sri Krishna noted that the observance of January 12th as Youth Day worldwide is a testament to the acceptance and relevance of Swami Vivekananda and his principles.

Students Should Live with Heart in Society, Says Young Scientist Drone Pratap

Kollegal, January 17, 2019: Young scientist ‘Drone’ Pratap emphasized that students should not merely seek a graduation certificate but strive to live wholeheartedly in society. Literature is a Flowing River, Says Dr. S. P. Umadevi

Mysuru, January 15, 2019: Dr. S. P. Umadevi, a renowned litterateur and Assistant Professor at JSS Women’s College, Mysuru, compared literature to a flowing river, full of newness and modernity. She expressed this view during the inauguration of the ‘Interaction with Litterateur’ program, jointly organized by the Kannada Post Graduation Department of JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, in association with the Kannada Book Authority, Government of Karnataka.

Engaging with students, Dr. Umadevi discussed various topics, including language, literature, culture, and media. She emphasized the importance of utilizing and presenting one’s talent, respecting one’s culture and language, and making responsible choices in media consumption. Drawing from her personal experience growing up in Suttur, she highlighted the significant role it played in shaping her as a litterateur.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, CEO of the College complex, commended the students for engaging with a litterateur, as it demonstrated an understanding of the essence of their works.
