About JSS Higher Primary School, Suttur

Suttur Srikshetra is situated on the banks of the holy river Kapila, about 28 km from Mysuru, towards south. Sri Suttur Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math, which was founded about a thousand years ago, has dedicated itself to various social and religious activities. At present, the Srimath has undertaken works related to social development in many parts of the country. The uniqueness of the service rendered by the Srimath is that its efforts are benefiting the entire society and is not aimed at the development of any one particular community.

The JSS Higher Primary School was started in suttur with around 64 students in the year 1991-92 until the year 2000-2001. The school was shifted to the present building in the year 2001-2002.

At present the JSS HPS is with 30 above sections with various parts of Indian children such as Tamil Nadu, Maharastra, Meghalaya, Manipur, Jarkhand, Arunachala Pradesh and so on. Today more than 2000 children’s are studying in both Kannada and English medium.

Moved by the plight of the children of bonded labourers of Hangarahalli in Mandya district, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji thought of establishing a school to provide free education, food, textbooks and uniforms for such underprivileged children. The free school project was inaugurated by then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in the year 2001-2002. Started with 1,000 students, the free school now has more than 4,000 students. A new hostel for girls was inaugurated by then President Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil, in the year 2009.

The school has separate hostels for boys and girls. The school has a dedicated staff, well equipped science laboratory, library, multi gym, playground, language lab and computer lab. Scores of students who have graduated from this school are now either pursuing higher studies in reputed institutions or have built sound careers in different fields.
