Sri Shivarathreeswara Rural Development Foundation (SSRDF)

Sri Shivarathreeswara Rural Development Foundation (SSRDF) is a registered trust established by His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji in 1986. The mission of this organization is to promote agriculture, the health of women, children, and senior citizens and to improve the standard of living of the people in rural areas. The institution also aims at promoting the effective utilization of science and technology in agriculture and sustainable use of natural resources.

The initiatives of SSRDF are integrated rural development through training and empowering rural folk, providing better healthcare to poor people, and upholding spiritual and cultural values. The organisation also does relief and rehabilitation works when natural calamities occur. Through various projects, Sri Shivarathreeshwara Rural Development Foundation was successful in reaching more than 15000 agriculturists.

The initiatives of Sri Shivarathreeshwara Rural Development Foundation (SSRDF) are:
SGSY special project:

  • This scheme was launched to inculcate the knowledge of seed production in agriculture, horticulture, and sericulture. The scheme is operational across 27 districts of Karnataka in association with Govt. of India and Govt. of Karnataka’s Rural Development department. Under this scheme, seed production, transplantation of horticulture plants and rearing of silkworms are promoted.
  • Silkworm Rearing Centres: In association with the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi has established model silkworm rearing centres in Mysore and Chamarajanagara districts. These centres distribute fine silkworms and other equipment required for sericulture.
  • Demonstrations on different technologies used in horticulture: SSRDF in association with the National Horticulture Mission and Department of Industries and Commerce, demonstrates various technologies flourished in the field of horticulture. The demo sessions are arranged every year in different places.
  • Suvarna Grama Yojana: With the financial aid of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayath Raj, SSRDF has undertaken the pilot developmental project works in villages of Nanjangud taluk under Suvarna Grama Yojana.
  • Trichogrammatid Parasitic Production: Under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, a scheme was implemented by SSRDF in 2004 to produce trichogrammatid on large scale. These trichogrammatids were distributed to the farmers as these insects help control pests biologically.
  • Nirmala Grama Yojana: With the help of Sri Suttur Math and Mysore Zilla Panchayat, SSRDF had built around 400 toilets at Suttur village under Nirmala Grama Yojana in 1994-95.
