The Differently Abled persons need equality, opportunity and accessibility in all respects to prove their abilities. Beleiving in this philosophy and to fulfill one of the major objectives of the National Policy on Education, the J S S Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru, established
JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled, Mysuru in 1991 with the active support of the Department of Technical Education and Government of Karnataka under the World Bank Assistance Scheme.
JSSPDA was the first and only Polytechnic of its kind in India which was set up to provide formal professional education at Diploma level exclusively for the Differently Abled. Considering its uniqueness, the Department of Technical Education has granted Academic Autonomy to this Polytechnic from the year 1999 – 2000.
The new campus of this unique Polytechnic was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Sri Atal Behari Vajpayee on 3rd January 1999 in the Gracious Presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamigalavaru, the president of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru. The campus has been designed to suit the needs of the Differently Abled and to provide complete accessibility to them.
Six Diploma Programmes (Architecture, Commercial Practice, Computer Science & Engineering, Jewellery Design & Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Computer Applications for the Visually Impaired) approved by AICTE and Government of Karnataka are offered at present. Out of these, Diploma in Jewellery Design & Technology and Diploma in Computer Applications for the Visually Impaired are the unique programmes offered only by this Polytechnic in the entire country.
