JSS School at Suttur Srikshetra is a unique project of JSSMVP, aimed at providing free education to children from rural families and thereby empowering the underprivileged. Located on a sprawling 60 acres of land, the school building has a built-up area of 13,900 sq. mt. and has been constructed at a cost of
र 7 crore.
The children of the school hail from different parts of the country and from all religions, cast, creed and sect. Most of the students are from poverty struck regions, especially the drought-hit and backward regions of Karnataka.
Poverty, distance to school, drought, child with single parent or no parent are some of the criteria based on which the selection is made. The school’s goal is to give the children from rural families an opportunity to get good education and thereby improve the quality of life of their families and themselves.
At present, the school imparts coeducation and currently has around 3,700 students, of which 3000 are residential students and the rest are day scholars. Presently, education is offered from Nursery to 10th Standard with State Syllabus. The school has a competent and dedicated team of faculty members and excellent infrastructure with facilities such as a well-stocked library, computer lab with broad-band internet connectivity, language lab with linguaphone to facilitate practical and easy learning of English, a huge sports-field and mutli gym facility. Besides, the School has spacious and well- ventilated 70 class rooms and an open air auditorium.
The school encourages creative activities like drawing, painting, pottery, dance, theatre, puppetry, music, folk songs and dance, street theatre, science exhibitions etc. Students are also provided training in vocational skills such as tailoring, house keeping, gardening, cooking and agriculture.
