Suttur, March 19, 2026: Ugadi, Allama Prabhu Jayanti and Panchanga (almanac) chanting programs were held in the divine presence of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji at Suttur Srimath.
Maharudrabhisheka, Sahasra Bilvarchane, Mahamangalaarti and Prakarotsava were performed at the shrine of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivaratreesgwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji. Special pujas were also held at the Sri Mahadeshwara Sannidhi, Sri Someshwara, Sri Veerabhadreshwara, Sri Nanjudeshwara and Sri Narayanaswamy temples.
Dr. G.V. Manjunath, a lecturer at the Holalkere Kotre Nanjappa Pre-University College, gave a lecture on the topic ‘Allama Prabhu’s life and the glory of his verses’. In his lecture he said that Allama Prabhu’s verses are very great. “He composed more than 1650 verses. Allama Prabhu, a religious and spiritual thinker, said that for a person’s life to be meaningful, he should control the five senses, cultivate wisdom, stay away from bad qualities and awaken the mind. Then his life will be meaningful. His verses are wise that open the mind of the soul. A person should give up greed. He should not long for money, property, status, and power. They should be allowed to flow by themselves. Basavanna and Allama Prabhu were great personalities in the 12th century. If the words of Sharanas are weighed in one scale and the words of Allama Prabhu in another scale, then the words of Allama Prabhu are superior.
Dr. K.G. Puttahonnaiah, the president of the Indian Astrology Research Center, Mysuru and the author recited the almanac and said that it is composed in five parts. The almanac is composed on the basis of astronomy and mathematics. There are a total of 60 years, and this year is the Parabhava Nama Samvatsara, the year of defeating evil forces.
The months of Shravana, Karthika, and Ashvayuja are the best. This year there are extra months. This year too, Vijayadashami is celebrated for 11 days. Getting married in the month of Chaitra is auspicious. Due to alms giving, the lakes fill up with rain. Solar eclipses occur, auspicious deeds can be done even in ancestral homes. Good crops are produced. If you take a bath in the Ganges, your sins will be washed away.
Later, during the question and answer session, Dr. Sri Voode P. Krishna, Secretary of the Bangalore Seshadripuram Institutions and President of the Gandhi Memorial Fund, asked when would the ongoing war in the Middle East would end? In his reply, Dr. G.V. Manjunath said that the war going on in the world these days will end soon and those who are showing off their ego will be punished accordingly.
The treasures of the Srimath and the village were taken out in a procession from the Srimath to the agricultural fields accompanied by Mangala Vadya and various folk art groups, and the new year’s agricultural work was started.
Pontiffs of the Sri Kuruburu, Kuderu, Baraguru (Tamil Nadu), Madivalaswamy Math, Dandikere, Kundur Betta, Nanjangud, Ramapura, Chunchanahalli, Alamatti etc., Sri Shankar Devanur, dignitaries and thousands of devotees from surrounding villages participated. School children rendered an invocation. Sri G. Shivaswamy welcomed and Sri Andaiah Shiroormath gave a vote of thanks.
