Sri D.S. Satish Kumar Emphasizes Voting as the Voice of Democracy

Voting is the voice of democracy – Sri D.S. Satish Kumar

Kollegal, January 27, 2020: Sri D.S. Satish Kumar, Lecturer at Assissi PU College in Kollegal, expressed his perspective on voting as the voice of democracy. He shared his insights during a lecture program titled “Role of Voting in the Democratic System,” organized by the Election Literacy Club and Youth Red Cross unit of JSS Women’s College in Kollegal. The lecture program was also held in commemoration of National Voters Day.

According to Sri D.S. Satish Kumar, the electoral process that takes place once every five years is the embodiment of democracy’s voice. He emphasized that voting is not only a right but also a duty of every citizen. Each vote carries the power to shape the future of the country, and it is essential for voters to exercise their franchise with care and diligence. Sri Satish Kumar urged voters to make informed decisions, keeping the welfare of the country in mind and avoiding any temptations. He emphasized that all eligible citizens, including young voters, literate individuals, and conscious voters, should actively participate in the electoral process to strengthen democracy.

In his address, Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, emphasized the importance of voting and stated that those who abstain from voting are equivalent to enemies of the country. He expressed concern that even after 72 years of independence, there is still a need to create awareness about the significance of voting. Prof. Umesh highlighted that National Voters Day has been observed on January 25 every year since its introduction on January 25, 2011, as the country’s “Election Commission Existence Day.”

The program included an oath-taking ceremony on compulsory voting, which lecturers and students conducted. Prof. M. Basavaraju, Convener of NSS, was present on the dais.
