Promoting Interdisciplinary Studies for the Benefit of Society and Self-Satisfaction, Says Prof. G. Hemanthkumar

Mysuru, February 29, 2020: Prof. G. Hemanthkumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore, emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary studies for the betterment of society and personal fulfillment. He shared his insights during the four-day Frontier Lecture Series, organized at JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, under the UGC sponsored programme for Enrichment of Teachers under the CPE Scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Hemanthkumar expressed that knowledge branches cannot attain perfection in isolation. They need to establish connections with other branches of knowledge to yield positive outcomes. He highlighted the need for interdisciplinary studies in today’s world and urged the audience to consider it for the betterment of society and their own satisfaction. He encouraged teachers to go beyond the scope of teaching and research, emphasizing the importance of regular study to gain knowledge about new issues and different subject areas, which ultimately enhances teaching methodologies.

In his valedictory address, Dr. L. Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor of JSS Science and Technological University, emphasized the boundless nature of knowledge, stating that it can be acquired from various sources without limitations. He encouraged the audience to expand their pursuit of knowledge beyond a single subject and strive to gain insights into different disciplines. Dr. Jawahar emphasized the importance of serving society through studies and research, with the aim of finding solutions to societal problems and instilling human values in education.

Dr. S. Srikantaiah, Director of the College Development Committee at the University of Mysore, the chief guest at the event, highlighted the role of science in advancing society and enhancing our quality of life. He emphasized that education should not be confined to the classroom but should encompass social education, enabling individuals to think more about the society they live in.

The program, attended by more than 500 lecturers, featured lectures by various resource persons from different universities. The lectures covered a wide range of subjects, including physical sciences, biological sciences, social sciences, human science, commerce, and management.

Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal of JSS College, welcomed the audience, and the program began with an invocation by Kum. Spanadana. Dr. M. Poornima served as the compere, and Dr. R. Suhas delivered the vote of thanks.
