Addressing Social Disparity in India: Prof. G.S. Suma Advocates for Social Justice

Kollegal, February 22, 2020: Prof. G.S. Suma, Assistant Professor at Sri Shivakumara PU College, Belakawadi, emphasized the existence of social disparity in India and called for collective efforts to eliminate this disparity. She delivered a special lecture on the topic “Indian Constitution and Social Justice” organized by the Political Science Department of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal, on the occasion of World Social Justice Day.

During her lecture, Prof. Suma stressed the importance of fulfilling the objective of social justice by ensuring that every constitutional provision reaches every individual equally in the country. She highlighted that while inequality in India is often based on the caste system, other countries experience disparities in the form of racial inequality. Prof. Suma urged citizens to recognize their responsibility in establishing social justice and work together towards this goal.

The lecture program was inaugurated by Prof. Umesh, Principal of JSS Women’s College, Kollegal. In his address, Prof. Umesh emphasized the prominent place given to social justice in the Indian constitution. He highlighted that the founding fathers of the constitution, led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, emphasized the significance of social democracy alongside political democracy. Prof. Umesh explained that social justice can be achieved when equality becomes ingrained in our way of life. He further mentioned that World Social Justice Day has been observed annually on February 20 since 2009, as directed by the United Nations.
