About KSS Sanskrit Patashala (Kyathanahalli Sahukar Sidddalingaiah Sanskrit Patashala)

Sanskrit is an ancient language having its roots in India. Sanskrit is the medium of science and the root of origin formany languages. In order to protect and encourage this sacred and rich language, Sri Suttur Math has opened many Sanskrit schools to impart the knowledge of  Sanskrit  to thousands of students. In the begining of 20th century, there were no Sanskrit schools in Mysuru to educate the pontiffs. Realizing the need for a heritage institution , His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Mantra Maharshi, the then pontiff of Suttur math opened the Kyathanahalli Sahukar Sidddalingaiah Sanskrit Patashala(KSS Sanskrit Pathashala) for the benefit of pontiffs and other interested students in Mysuru. In the year 1933, Kyathanahalli Sahukar Sri Siddalingaiah bought a building in Vanivilas Road, Mysore, to accommodate the School. Later, he formed a trust under the chairmanship of Suttur Math’s Jagadguru and handed it over to the Math. Thus, the dream of Senior Jagadguru His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamy (Manthra Maharshigalu) was brought to fruition.

With a view to appreciate the efforts of Sahukar Sri Siddalingaiah, who donated the building, the Sanskrit school was named after him. It was inaugurated in the year 1937 by the then Diwan, Sir Mirza Ismail. A hostel was also started for the students.

Veda, Aagama, Astrology, Prathama, Kavya and Literature (Sahitya) classes are conducted at the K.S.S. Sanskrit School. Popular and great scholars of yesteryears such as Sri Vishnu Murthy Bhatt and Sri Krishnacharya had taught Sanskrit in this school. Many students who have studied here have occupied vital positions in society and have been rendering a yoeman service. A few among them include: Sri H. Gangadhar, a famous lawyer of Mysore, Sri Nagannachar of J.S.S Mahavidyapeetha, Sri S. Nanjundaiah, retired Kannada Professor, Dr. Lingaraju, Mysuru and many more.

Sahukar Siddalingaiah of Kyathanahlli built the “Veerashaiva Sanskrit Student’s Hostel” in 1859 on Vanivilas road, Mysore. It was inaugurated by the then Minister Amin – Ul – Mulk Sir Mirza M. Ismail K.T.K.C.I.E.O.B on 29-10-1937 on the auspicious day of Ishwara Samvatsara Ashwa Yaja Krishna 10th Friday.
