Academics and Admission to JSS Sahana School, Mysuru

Academics:

Before admitting any child, we first identify the child, then assess the ability of the child, and later we implement an annual program like the development of daily living skills, activities to improve memory and concentration using necessary teaching aids. We also assess the ability of each student and chalk out activities to develop their skills according to their needs. We provide speech therapy and physiotherapy to the pupils based on their requirement. Based on the ability we also integrate the students to the concerned class at JSS Preprimary School and JSS High School. We train the students in co-curricular activities like sports, dance, drawing & painting, yoga, etc. We try to develop communication skills in students who lack them. In addition to all these, we provide prevocational training to students who are capable of.

Admission:

When a student seeks admission, we assess their ability as to whether the child is with mild behavioural disability or moderate behavioural disability. We assess the child for at least one week before admission, and then, we implement annual program to develop daily living skills and activities to improve memory and concentration.
If the student is able to be integrated to the normal classes, we would do that according to their capacity of learning

Activities

Activities at JSS Sahana School, Mysuru

We also give importance to co curricular activities such as sports, dance, drawing & painting, yoga, fancy dress, etc. We provide prevocational training to the students according to their ability to perform tasks. We also organize competitions for the parents in different fields such as Rangoli, sports, singing, etc. The students also partake in the celebration of national festivals such as Gandhi Jayanthi, Independence Day, Republic Day, Teacher’s Day, Children’s Day, etc. The students and faculty of JSS College of Speech and Hearing, Mysore, have been rendering their services to our school students through speech therapy. We also take our school students to Regional Museum of Natural History to learn about historical developments and to gain scientific knowledge.

Books are available in the library for reference.
The school has 2 computers along with a printer and UPS.
Basic amenities are provided for students.
Our school has a very good playground and a beautiful garden.
We own a good number of sports materials which are used by our students.

About JSS Sahana School, Mysuru

The Sahana school in Mysusru was established on 02.10. 1987, with the blessings of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. The school was started on the premises of JSS Women’s College Campus, Saraswathipuram. At the early stages, the institution started with only 5 children and one teacher. Now, there are 97 children, 09 teachers and 2 helpers who are working eminently towards the development of the institution.

At JSS Sahana School, Mysuru, we group the children according to their special needs, ability and interests and give special training to them in dance, drawing, sports, songs. The school also offers prevocational training to these children. We train the children with the help of specially trained teachers who are well-versed in the field of special education. Health of the school children is monitored through regular health checkups. The school also organizes “Parents Awareness Programmes” to parents in order to enhance their knowledge about treating special children.

About 50 percent of our school students have passed 7th and 10th Standard from different institutions. Some of them have been admitted to diploma courses at JSS PPH, Mysore, and some are working in private sector organizations. Some alumini of this institution are also running their own business.

We also provide our children with speech therapy. Our school children have participated in State level, National level & International Level sports and cultural competitions and have won numerous prizes. The main aim of our school is trying to bring the special children to the main streamline and enable them to lead their lives as independently as possible.
