Renowned Spiritual Leader Emphasizes the Significance of Life After Marriage

Suttur, Jan. 17, 2021: His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarthri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji shared valuable insights during the monthly mass marriage program organized by Sutturu Srimath on Sunday. Addressing the 21 couples tying the knot in the first month of the new year, he expressed that “how a couple lives after the wedding is more important than how they get married.”

Highlighting the cultural significance of Indian weddings, His Holiness stressed the importance of individuals embracing the expectations of society. He urged couples to foster understanding and strive for a peaceful life together. Rather than solely focusing on wealth, he encouraged men to cultivate a mindset of sharing their prosperity for the benefit of others. Smt. S.R. Gayathri of Mysuru, a philanthropist with a generous heart, donated essential items to the newly married couples as part of the program. His Holiness also acknowledged the government’s contribution to such mass marriage programs and emphasized their purpose of enabling couples to save money and avoid unnecessary expenses.

During the event, Udigala Kumaraswamy provided an introduction to the mass marriage program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program originally scheduled to be held during the 2021 Suttur Jatra Mahotsav was modified, and only the monthly mass marriage programs are currently taking place in Sutturu. As customary, the Srimath provided the couples with mangalya (sacred thread), sarees, toe rings, shirts, dhotis, and vallis (wedding garlands) free of cost. Kumaraswamy encouraged the community to make good use of these offerings.

Sri Ishaprasada Swamiji of Jnanayogashrama in Vijayapura administered the pledge to the newly wedded couples. Smt. Lakshmi, daughter of the donor Smt. Gayathri, Sri Mahadevaswamy, Joint Director of Technical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, and Duggahatti Sri P. Veerbhadrappa also shared their thoughts and urged the public to benefit from the mass marriage program conducted by Sri Suttur Math.

The event witnessed the presence of Sri Jayarajendra, Sri Alamatti Rudramuniswamy, Sri S. Shivakumaraswamy, Sri S.P. Udayashankar, Rajanna, heads of JSS Institutions, and relatives of the newly married couples.

The program commenced with an invocation by the music teachers of the JSS Residential School. Duggatti Sri V. Mallikarjunaswamy extended a warm welcome, while Kanya Shivamurthy delivered the vote of thanks. The program was skillfully compered by G.L. Tripurantaka.
