Kollegal, July 10, 2019: “Lack of reading habits has made books useless things,” opined H. G. Natarajan, HoD, History, JSS Women’s College, Kollegal.
He addressed the students after inaugurating a lecture on “Utilization of Library’, held at the JSS Women’s College, in Kollegal, organized for the First year Degree students, as part of the ‘Orientation Program for Freshers.’
“The number of book readers is declining constantly over the last two decades. TV and mobile phones have replaced them. Over usage of technology has snatched away book reading habits from us. Along with the usage of technology, reading habits should also be retained. There is no match for the knowledge that you get from books,” he added.
Presiding over the program, Prof. Umesh, Principal of the College expressed his view that “Books also is growing old like a man. But books won’t die like human beings. Today more than a classroom, students should spend more time in the library. Achieving success in competitive exams is possible only through the library. Only libraries which are called as ‘treasure house of knowledge’ can provide complete and genuine information to the students and take them towards success,” he said and called upon the students to utilize the library properly.
Sri Srinivas, Librarian, spoke about how to use the library and books.
