Workshop on ‘Critical Thinking and Good Clinical Practice’ inaugurated


Mysuru, February 16, 2017: A workshop on ‘Critical Thinking and Good Clinical Practice’, jointly organised by the JSS University, in association with the Clinical Development Service Agency (CDSA-Department of Bio-Technology), Government of India, was inaugurated at the Sri Rajendra Centenary Auditorium, JSS Hospital, Mysuru, on Feb 16, 2017.

In his inaugural address chief guest Dr. T. S. Rao, Senior Advisor, Clinical Development Services Agency (CDSA), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, mentioned about the excellent infrastructure and facilities available at JSS University. He appreciated the enthusiasm with which the faculty and the administrators who work together and said it was the crucial factor in awarding Centre of Excellence status to JSS University.

Another chief guest Dr. Y. K. Gupta, Prof. and Head, Department of Pharmacology, AIIMS, New Delhi, said that JSS has built a brand for quality and commitment. He said, the JSS University well deserved the status of Center of Excellence in Clinical Research. Hence, out of 34 applicants from various institutions across the country, five institutions were selected and JSS University emerged as the best.

“CDSA is working to build capacity amongst clinical investigators for conducting clinical research. In this endeavour collaboration of CDSA with academic and research organisations is important,” he added.

Both the chief guests felt the need for healthy competition between government and private sectors.

Dr. B. Suresh in his presidential address thanked CDSA for awarding CoE in Clinical Research to JSS University and highlighted the efforts made by the university in meeting the objectives of Center for Excellence.

About 44 selected participants from Medical, Dental, Pharmacy and Life Sciences are taking part in this two-day workshop, which helps in developing human resource in conducting meaningful and effective clinical research that is customised and needed for the country. Experts for this training workshop are drawn from CDSA led by Dr. T. S. Rao & Dr. Y. K. Gupta. Dr. Sucheta Banerjee, Dr. A. B. Ramteke, Dr. Pawandeep Kaur, Dr. Gayathri Vishwakarma, Dr. Nandini Kumar, Manipal University, Dr. Pratibha Periera & Dr. H. S. Kiran from JSS University, Dr. Sangeeta Myles from Pfizer were the other resource persons. Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa, Principal, JSS Medical College welcomed the gathering. Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS University, Dr. P. A. Kushalappa, Director Academics, JSS University and Dr. G. Parthsarathi, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, graced the occasion. Dr. Pratibha Periera, Head, CoE, JSS University proposed a vote of thanks.
