“Universities should promote usage of information and communication technology among students”
Kollegal, August 12, 2017: “Colleges and Universities should focus on increasing the usage of information, communication and technology,” opined Sri Vishakantamurthy, Principal, JSS Nursing School, Kollegal.
He addressed the gathering after inaugurating the “Special Lecture and Book Exhibition” programme, organized by the Library and Information Centre of the JSS Nursing College, Kollegal. “In this era of competition, usage of information and communication network has gained more significance and hence there is a need to enhance it. Efforts should be made to utilize technology in a much effective way and necessary infrastructure should be made available to the students. Private educational institutions are in a better position in this aspect. Students belonging to poor and lower middle class families can also avail better higher education opportunities only if it happens in government colleges.
Prof. Umesh presided over the programme. In his address he opined that there is a need to further enhance the qualitative education and utilize communication related technology in a better coordinated way. “Sharing of e-content, and digitalization of available resources is needed. The library department of this college has adopted e-learning facility. Students should utilize it,” he said.
“The State Govt. has introduced ‘Jnana Sangama’ a programme to promote digital library, smart classroom, tele-education and usage of other advanced technologies in education, which is appreciable,” he informed.
Further he said, “Education doesn’t mean just graduation. Along with qualification one should inculcate intelligence and talent. The students should use modern technology wisely.”
Librarian Sri Srinivas, in his introductory speech informed the students that the National Library Day is being observed also as the Birth Anniversary of renowned Indian mathematician and librarian Dr. S. R. Ranganath, on August 12 of every year. This is his 125th Birth Anniversary.
