Shivarathreeshwara Centre, Bengaluru
An auditorium with most modern facilities has been constructed in the JSS Educational Institutions Campus at Jayanagar, Bengaluru. This is one of the prestigious cultural centers in the capital city. Its objective is to provide opportunities to the youth to exhibit their talents.
During the year, 23 cultural programmes were held at the centre.
Sri Shivarathreeshwara Kala Mantapa
The Kala Mantapa or the theatre was inaugurated with the blessings of Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, in 1948. The purpose of this theatre was to stage dramas based on the life stories of Shivasharanas and to propogate their messages and change the attitude of people. This theatre has helped several dramatists and playwrights achieve fame. Of the several plays staged by the Kalamantapa, some of the popular ones are: Adarsha Vivaha, Shri Paadake Namo Namaha, Sri Shivarthreeshwara Vijaya, Jagajyothi Basaveshwara and Nijaguna Shivayogi.
The Kala Mantapa has celebrated its Golden Jubilee. It has a tradition of honouring senior artistes every year. In the current season, the following plays: Kindarajogi, Mricchakatika, Chitrapata and Sri Shivarathreeshwara Vijaya were staged.
The Kala Mantapa had organised JSS Rangotsava at Kalamandira, Mysuru. During the occasion, four plays, Kindarajogi, Mricchakatika, Chitrapata and Rekke Kattuvira were staged.
Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Chinthana Mantapa, Bengaluru
This forum was started in 2005, at the JSS Educational Institutions campus, in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. In this forum, 96 cultural programmes were held during the year including the programmes organized by the All India Sharana Sahitya Parishath and JSS schools and colleges.
Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Granthamale/Publications
The 22nd Jagadguru, Mantra Maharshi, His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Mahaswamiji believed in social change through literature. To fulfill this objective, he started the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Granthamale/ publications. So far, over 100 valuable titles have been published. During the year under report, apart from books, calendars (pocket, wall and table), panchangas (Hindu Almanac) were also published.
JSS Book House
In order to reach the publications of Sri Shivarathreeshwara Granthamale and other good titles published by other publishers to the readers, a retail book shop, JSS Book House has been set up. The book house also supplies notebooks to JSS schools, at a concessional rate.
Under the “Sharana Samskrithi” series, books written by several stalwarts in Kannada literature are being published.
His Holiness Dr. Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji decided to bring out a periodical ‘Prasada’, way back in 1967, basically, to propogate Dharma, Darshana, Vedanta, Culture, History, Arts and other issues.
Since 1985, ‘Prasada’ is being published once in two months. The periodical publishes works of several renowned scholars. ‘Prasada’ has a readership all over the state with 6899 subscribers. During the year 6 issues have been published.
Since 1990, Sharanapatha, a bi-annual English periodical is being published. The objective of this English publication is basically to introduce Indian culture, vachana literature, dharma and philosophy to other language readers. This has 3478 subscribers all over India and two issues have been published during the current year.
JASHIRA, a monthly publication covers reports on various activities of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha and its sister organizations. During the year, 11 issues have been brought out
