JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru
In order to extend health services to those with speech and hearing impairment, and to churn out well-trained personnel in the field and state-of-the-art equipment, the JSS Speech and Hearing Institute was started in 2001-02. The institute is offering four year B.Sc. degree in Speech and Hearing. It is recognized by the University of Mysore and the Rehabilitation Council of the Government of India. The Institute has all the facilities to train students. It has annual intake of 40 students for B.Sc. Course and 25 students for M.Sc. Course.
The institute had 15 teaching staff and 11 non-teaching staff during the year under report. A total of 143 students (19 boys and 124 girls) were purusing graduation and 32 students (8 boys and 24 girls) were pursuing post graduation during the year 2011-12. Around 244 people benefitted from the medical camps organized by the institution in various organizations.
Under the joint aegis of JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, and JSS Law College, a one-day seminar on “Legislative Response and Rehabilitative Measures for the Differently Abled”, was organized to mark the World Human Rights Day, at JSS Law College Auditorium, on 10-12-2011. Over 300 representatives took part in it.
The college had a recurring expenditure of Rs. 86.28 lakhs and non-recurring expenditure of Rs. 29.20 lakhs during the year under report.
