Suttur, 05 June 2018: The JSS ICAR Krishi Vignan Kendra, Suttur, had organized a programme to observe the ‘World Environment Day 2018’ on 5 June, 2018. ICAR KVK Senior Scientist Dr. Arun Balamatti in his introductory speech observed that in this modern era usage of plastic has increased leading to environmental pollution. “Wastewater from industries is directly seeping into the tanks. Treating and reusing of industrial wastewater should be made compulsorily,” he said.

“Instead of producing thermal or nuclear energy, the govt. should make more efforts to generate solar energy. It also helps to reduce the pressure on the environment,” he added.
JSS School, Suttur, Coordinator Sri Tripurantaka G. L. participated in the programme as the chief guest. “Today plastic usage has become a part of our lives. Plastic takes 100 years to decompose. Hence, it is good for us to reduce plastic usage as much as possible and protect the environment and earth,” he observed.

“The soil fertility in many agricultural fields has reduced drastically due to plastic waste,” said progressive farmer Sri Madappa. He also urged the farmers to get rid of plastic and the govt. to take suitable action.

Another farmer Sri Abdul Ghani Khan expressed his concern about the severing of roadside trees. “If no action is taken to plant trees alternatively it will not be possible for us to leave behind a good environment for the next generation,” he said.

The JSS School students explained the farmers about the benefits of using less or no plastic.
Earlier the programme commenced by watering of a sapling by the guests.

A demonstration on making compost by crushing agri waste using a tractor powered instrument was made.

Sri Srinivas Mankani welcomed, Sri Gangappa Hipparagi gave a vote of thanks and Smt. Divya compered the programme.
