Get patent for unique innovations – Dr. M.N. Bheemesh
Mysuru, April 12, 2018: The PG Department of Commerce, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru, had organised a one-day seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights”, on April 11, 2018.
Dr M N Bheemesh, Hon. Director, National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Mysuru, was the chief guest. In the first technical session, Dr M N Bheemesh spoke on the topic “Overview of Intellectual Property Rights & its Significance in Business and Academia”. He spoke about the difference between physical property and intellectual property and briefed about the different forms of intellectual property rights like Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Industrial Design Rights, Plant Varieties, Trade Secrets, Trade Designs, etc. He also explained the importance of getting patent for innovations. “If our innovations are new, helpful to the society and are unique, then we should get a patent for such innovation,” he added.
In the second technical session, Smt. Vanitha M.S., Advocate, Mysuru, delivered a talk on “Patents, Trade Mark and Copyright: Procedural Aspects”. She gave a brief introduction about the several procedural aspects like registration, renewal, removal of patents, copyrights and trademarks.
Prof. B V Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, JSS College of Arts Commerce & Science, Mysuru, in his presidential remarks highlighted the importance of intellectual property rights.
Prof. M Mahadevappa, Principal, Dr H C Honnappa, Chairperson of PG Dept. of Commerce were present. Earlier the programme commenced with an invocation by first-year M.Com students Kum. Sumalatha H.M. and Gayathri H.S. While II year M.Com student Kum. Chondamma M.D. compered, Dr Asha G S, Assistant Professor, PG Dept. of Commerce gave a vote of thanks.
