Dr. R. Karpoormath highlights the need for new drugs in the present day scenario
Mysuru, August 2, 2018: The Postgraduate Department of Chemistry, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, had organised a special lecture on, “Target-Based Drug Design, Methodology and Biosensors: Solutions for Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases,” by Dr. Rajashekhar Karpoormath, Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Health Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, on 02 August 2018.
In his talk, Dr. R. Karpoormath highlighted the need for new drugs in the present day scenario and mentioned that the specific target on which the drug acts is highly crucial to combat the diseases. He gave a glimpse of several chemical methodologies that were developed in his laboratory that finds numerous applications in chemical/industrial/pharmaceutical industries.
Further, he elaborated on the development of electroanalytical methods to trace biological and organic species with modified nanoelectrodes. Later he interacted with the students.
The programme was presided by the college Chief Executive Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah. Principal, Prof. M. Mahadevappa and Head of PG Department of Chemistry, Dr L. Mallesha, staff and more than 100 students were present.
