College life is a good foundation for personality development – Sri Shivakumar
Kollegal, September 27, 2018: “College life should become a good foundation for a student’s integrated personality development,” opined Sri S. Shivakumar, Youth Motivator and Lifeskills trainer, of the Yuva Spandana Kendra, Chamarajanagara.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on “Lifeskills Training for Students”, held at the JSS Women’s College, in Kollegal, jointly organised by the NSS Unit and Yuva Spandana District Office, Chamarajanagara.
“Marks you score in school days play a vital role till you reach college. But after that, along with education, it becomes essential to inculcate several qualities and characteristics that will be helpful for your future. Lifeskills can be learned only through self-efforts. Integrated personality development is possible only when you develop communication skills, leadership qualities, problem-solving skills, confidence, skill to face pressure, discipline, etc. You can have a bright future if you make efforts and develop all these qualities during your college days,” he said.
In his presidential address, Prof. Umesh, Principal, JSS Women’s College, Kollegal said, “Due to lack of professional skills, today’s young graduates don’t show the enthusiasm and confidence that they usually possess during their college days. Hence, it is very important to value time, and develop skills when you are in college. The role of teachers is also very important here. They should try to identify the hidden talent in the students and encourage them, and take them towards practical education,” he explained.
Among the ten essential lifeskills; communication, self-awareness and thinking capabilities were taught at the workshop.
Lecturers Smt. Smitha, Geography Department, Sri Basavadatta Mahadevaprasad, Commerce Department and Smt. K.R. Umadevi, Physical Education Director were present.
