Awareness about Kannada is vanishing as a result of globalisation – Prof. Mysuru Krishnamurthy
Mysuru, Nov. 1, 2018: “Celebration of Kannada Rajyotsava is a symbol of diversity. It is not limited only to our state. It is a day that sends a very good message to the entire world. As globalisation is destroying our diversity, it is also killing the awareness about Kannada among the people,” opined Prof. M. Krishnamurthy, Maharani College, Mysuru.
He participated as the chief guest at a programme held at the JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, B.N. Road, Mysuru, on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. In his address to the students, he said, “Today many celebrations including Kannada Rajyotsava have become mechanical. There is no opportunity for freedom to discuss or talk. Hence, we have to save our individuality. Let us not wait for others to develop our language. The formation of language wise regions is a significant aspect of retaining diversity. We should make efforts to keep alive the existence of Kannada language by protecting such diversity in all the sectors.”
Prof. B. V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive Manager, JSS College Complex expressed his view that, “Financial and political willpower are two very important aspects for the development of any sector. As far as the development and existence of language are concerned, we are lacking in both these aspects. In ancient days several kings have contributed a lot for the promotion of Kannada language and literature. Such promotion is not happening today. Development of Kannada language is not happening as it used to be till the end 20th century. Today we should think about protecting and developing the Kannada language by learning other languages too.”
Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Principal, JSS Degree College welcomed, Sri S. Somashekar, Principal PU College gave a vote of thanks and Dr. B.S. Sudeep compered.
